Pain in the front, inside, outside, or back of the knee may have different causes. A new injury, gradual overload, arthritis, or symptoms from somewhere else can all change the next step.
That’s why we start with your history and an examination instead of assuming every sore knee needs an adjustment. We’ll talk about what hurts, what activities bring it on, and what you want to return to.
What might be behind knee discomfort?
These are examples, not a diagnosis. The examination helps decide what your symptoms may mean.
Overuse or training changes
A change in running, lifting, walking, or kneeling can make the knee more sensitive to load.
Stiffness and arthritis
Knee osteoarthritis can involve pain, stiffness, and difficulty with everyday movement. Care focuses on managing symptoms and function.
Sprains and other injuries
A twist, fall, swelling, locking, or instability deserves an evaluation to decide what care or referral is needed.
More than a knee adjustment.
Chiropractic care for knee pain can include assessment, guidance, and selected hands-on techniques. What helps depends on the cause.
Understand the problem
Dr. Ryan can assess knee movement and examine related areas such as the hip and ankle, then explain whether care here is appropriate.
Build strength and tolerance
When appropriate, a plan may include exercise and gradual activity changes to help the knee handle everyday demands. Exercise is a key part of care for knee osteoarthritis.
Consider hands-on care
Joint or soft tissue techniques may be considered for some patients, alongside active care. They are not a cure for torn ligaments, advanced arthritis, or every kind of knee pain.
Know when to refer
If the findings suggest imaging, medical evaluation, or another type of treatment is needed, Dr. Ryan can recommend the right next step.
The evidence for hands-on treatment varies by condition. For knee osteoarthritis, guidelines place exercise at the center of care and consider manual therapy only alongside exercise.
What happens when you come in?
We’ll talk about when the knee pain started, what makes it better or worse, and what activities matter to you. Dr. Ryan will examine the knee and relevant movement, explain what he finds, and discuss options.

Consultation, exam & adjustment*
An adjustment is included when clinically appropriate. The visit can also help determine whether your knee needs another type of evaluation.
See available times →*New patients only. Adjustment when clinically appropriate. Restrictions apply to certain claimants and government healthcare program participants. Call for details. Some knee symptoms need prompt medical evaluation.
If you’ve had a significant injury, don’t wait for a routine chiropractic visit to decide what to do.
Seek prompt medical care if:
You cannot bear weight, the knee looks deformed, you cannot move it, or you have severe swelling after an injury. A hot, red knee with fever also needs prompt evaluation.
If you’re unsure what kind of care you need, call us and describe what happened.
Knee pain questions
Can a chiropractor “fix” my knee?
It depends on the cause. Some problems can improve with conservative care, while others need imaging, a specialist, or a different treatment. An examination comes first.
Will you adjust my knee?
Not automatically. Dr. Ryan will assess your symptoms and explain which options, if any, are appropriate for you.
Is exercise part of the plan?
It may be. Strength and gradual activity changes are often useful, especially for persistent knee pain and osteoarthritis.
How many visits will I need?
There is no set number for every person. We’ll discuss a plan based on your findings, goals, and response to care.
